Plumbing

Plumbing emergencies don't have to mean plumber price-gouging.

From a $250 main shutoff replacement to a $9,000 whole-home re-pipe, plumbing pricing is one of the least transparent trades in your house. We match you with licensed local plumbers who quote by the job — not by how stressed you sound on the phone.

Why homeowners overpay

“Emergency rate” is real for after-hours, but during business hours it's almost always a markup. Vetted licensed plumbers will give a flat-rate quote before they touch the wrench. If a plumber refuses to quote until they're “inside the wall,” that's the cue to get another quote.

FAQ

Plumbing questions, answered

How much do plumbers charge?
Most licensed plumbers charge $85–$175/hour. Flat-rate jobs: toilet replacement $200–$450, water heater replacement $1,000–$2,800, faucet install $150–$350, main shutoff $250–$600, sewer line repair $1,500–$8,000.
How much does a whole-home re-pipe cost?
PEX re-pipe runs $3,500–$8,500 for a 2-bath home, $7,000–$15,000 for a larger home. Always includes drywall patching but usually not painting.
Should I replace polybutylene or galvanized?
Yes. Polybutylene (gray plastic, 1978–1995) is prone to sudden catastrophic failure. Galvanized pipe corrodes from inside, restricting flow and adding lead/iron to drinking water. Both should be replaced with PEX.
How do I tell if a leak is urgent?
Any leak you can see is urgent. Hidden leaks show as warm spots in the floor, water-meter movement when nothing's running, or unexplained spikes in your water bill. Shut the main and call a plumber the same day.
